Letter to Readers

From International Socialism, No.45, November/December 1970, p.11.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

Apologies are owed to a number of people whose names were unaccountably omitted in the last issue (is 44). The article by Hans Magnus Enzensberger Portrait of a Party was translated by Johanna Hoornweg. The sentence on page 18, column 1, line 28 should begin ‘But this consciousness is without any concept; ...’ Johanna is at present working on a new translation of Paul Frolich’s biography of Rosa Luxemburg which Pluto Press will be bringing out early in 1971. The Survey piece on Russia was written by Hillel Tickten, better known to regular readers as Ivan Ivanov.

Some information on contributors: Jim Higgins, has recently become a member of the Executive of the Post Office Engineering Union. Chris Harman who edits this journal is currently working on a book on Eastern Europe since the war. Richard Kuper lectures in sociology at a little-known college of technology. Ian Birchall lectures in French at the same place.

The price of the journal remains unaltered at 3s a copy, but the subscription rates are being adjusted slightly to take account of such things as postage. They now become, for one year’s subscription, £1, $3.50, 14.00DM, 17.00NF. These new rates will apply to both new subscriptions and to renewals from is 46.

We are running very short of back issues before IS 40. In particular we should like copies of IS 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35, in order to make up sets of IS 29-42 for binding, but any back numbers would be very welcome indeed. We will buy these back at 2s 6d per copy. So please, anyone propping up their kitchen table on piles of the first number, send them back to us and we’ll send you a made-to-measure kitchen table leg by return.
