Resolution of the Socialists of Brooklyn’s 21st Assembly District

“Whereas 146 young girls and men recently lost their lives in the fireproof fire trap at Washington place and Green (sic) street; and

Whereas the great loss was due to the present conditions permitting building inspectors and inspectors of all other departments not to see dangerous fire traps and other death and Greene street(sic); and

Whereas we have 10,000 such death trap buildings in New York; and

Whereas the government is directly and we are all indirectly responsible for the murder of these, our young sisters and brothers, by allowing these conditions to exist; therefore, be it

Resolved, That we protest with all our might against such horrible and repeated disasters, caused principally by the capitalist system of production; and be it further

Resolved, That as it is useless to expect ideal protection from the “captains of industry and their representatives”

We appeal to all our brethren to take the cause in their own hands and use all the ways and means in our power to do away with such horrible conditions
