Forms and Methods of Mobilizing the Trade Union Opposition (Left Wing) in All Countries

Experiences of recent strikes in France, Germany and Poland have shown that local organizations do not receive sufficient aid and support during strikes, from the Party, revolutionary trade union centers, and the trade union opposition. At the same time, the revolutionary trade unions and the trade union opposition can give active leadership only on the condition that we are able to mobilize all the forces at our disposal. Therefore, the most important tasks before the revolutionary unions and the opposition are the following:

1. At the approach of a conflict in some industry to transfer our best forces to the place of battle.

2. To adopt all our agitation and propaganda to the importance and significance of the conflict.

3. To give special space in the press to the conflict, drawing the strikers in as correspondents.

4. To concentrate all the work of the revolutionary unions, and the trade union opposition towards aiding the strike. To change the routine work of the unions in such a manner as to afford the strike the maximum assistance.

5. To institute a strict check-up on a military footing over the activities of everyone assigned to a definite branch of work.

6. To give special attention during the strike to drawing new forces into the leading committees from among the ranks of the workers—men, women and young workers—involved in the conflict of this branch of industry. Hundreds and thousands of workers can be found who would carry on a tremendous amount of voluntary work.

7. To establish permanent, live contact between the leading committees of struggle and the central leadership of the revolutionary trade unions.

8. In order to mobilize all forces for the support of the struggle, the workers in the immediate leadership must truthfully report the situation as it is, without lending it any color.
