Within weeks of Dreyfus’ degradation the following mention appeared, written by the anarchist, art critic, and early Dreyfusard, Felix Feneon.
From January 1-6: On the occasion of the New year’s holiday we had the degradation of captain Dreyfus and, around it, the noble spectacle of the immobile servility of some, and the lynch-mob fury of others. As Renan said at a meeting of the Prix Monthyon, in the army there is a day when virtue is rewarded.
