Transcription & mark-up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.
“In the United States, throughout the entire thirty-year period prior to mid-1945, no single year on record reported more than 173 tornadoes. After 1945, six successive years averaged 264 tornadoes each, with 1951 reporting 300, and 1953 reporting 395. It is probably too early to determine whether these comparisons are merely a statistical coincidence. Nevertheless, according to the record, there has been a marked increase in both the number and the severity of such storms since the atomic experiments.”
