As usual at this time of year this is a July-August issue. We will be back to monthly publication in normal style, including Notes of the Month, with IS 91 in September. IS 91 will contain an article on developments in the Miners’ Union by Bill Message and a discussion of the experience of the Right to Work campaign to date by John Deason. There will also be a comprehensive reply, by Peter Binns, to the Communist Party pamphlet The Soviet Union: State Capitalist or Socialist? and a critical examination, by Nigel Harris of Maitan’s Party, Army and Class in China. Finally, David Shonfield will survey the situation in Chile three years after Pinochet’s coup.

For subsequent issues this year articles planned, promised or actually to hand include World Inflation: Causes and Prospects, Capital Accumulation (by Nigel Harris), an extended review article on Dewar’s Communist Politics in Britain by Raymond Challinor, Brian Trench on the Protestant working class in the six counties, a history of Racialism in Britain, a reappraisal of Eugene Victor Debbs by John Charlton, Realist Socialism by Colin Barker and an assessment of Trotsky’s Writings: 1929-1940 by the editor.

There are also plans to considerably expand the production of background material on industrial and trade union affairs.
