A brief note on our contributors and future plans. Roger Rosewell, a former shop steward and trade union official, is an industrial correspondent of Socialist Worker. The second part of his article on the seamen appears in February. Jim Kincaid, our specialist on welfare and income distribution, has promised a regular contribution. The next one is on pensions. Chris Harman is a member of the IS Executive Committee and deputy editor of Socialist Worker. Tirril Harris is a psychologist and parent.
We are particularly pleased to be able to serialise Reg Groves’ reminiscences of the early days of the left opposition movement in Britain. This first hand report of the origins and early development of our movement by a leading participant will run over five issues. Our February number will also include Margaret Renn on equal pay, Colin Barker on the pattern of strikes in the last period, Vic Richards on Brazil and an important article by Nigel Harris, China Since Lin Piao – The New Phase.
We have had to leave over, for the time being, the second parts of Richard Hyman’s Communist Industrial Policy in the 1920s and Duncan Hallas’ The Fourth International. This is a result of the policy of shorter articles and more variety. It is hoped to publish a shortened version of Richard Hyman’s controversial conclusions shortly, together with a criticism of the first part of his article by Frank Webster.
Finally, Controversy means what it says. Contributions (not more than 1,800 words please) on any topic of general interest are most welcome.
