Robert Tressell
1870–1911
Biography:
Robert Noonan (Tressell) was born in Dublin on 18 April 1870. By profession he was a housepainter. He was also an active socialist.
In 1902 he settled in Hastings and worked for local builders. during his free time he wrote The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, which is obviously based on his own experiences.
He died of tuberculosis on 3 February 1911 in Liverpool Royal Infirmary and was buried in a pauper’s grave in Walton Cemetery.
