The branches did a good job last week in stepping up the pace of the Socialist Workers Party election fund campaign.

Total weekly contributions were $1,633 – an increase of more than $000 over the previous week.

Philadelphia branch – which did splendid work in getting the Dobbs-Carlson ticket on the Pennsylvania ballot – has come through with flying colors for the $25,000 Election Campaign and Party Building Fund. It has completed its $500 quota four weeks ahead of the deadline, and now shares honors with the six branches previously listed in the hundred-percenters column.

Several other branches have made a big jump up the scoreboard.

Minnesota, including the Trotskyist strongholds in the Twin Cities, added 20% to its total, standing at 90% and within shooting distance of the 100% mark. That’s the home state of our Vice-presidential candidate, Grace Carlson.

San Francisco-Oakland climbed from 38% to 63% on the scoreboard, jumping ahead of several other branches which have paced the Bay area comrades up to now.

The ever-dependable comrades in Reading – who have had plenty of tough sledding – boosted their percentage in one week from 64% to 90%. Akron has moved five places ahead on the scoreboard by achieving 52% of its quota, up from 21%.

But as the cold figures showed in my report last week, it was necessary to keep a pace of over $2,000 weekly for five weeks to reach our goal of $25,000 by Election Day, Nov. 2 – and the date’s drawing awful close.

Each and every week from now to the elections must bring in $2,289 to go over the top on the total quota. This week the scoreboard records $15,844 in – or 63%. That’s a little less than two-thirds of the way. We can complete the distance in the next four weeks only if we go into the sprint.

We know that most of the comrades are digging right down to the bottom of their pockets to make the goal. We’d like to remind them that there are many Workers who’d be glad to contribute a buck to the cause of socialism. Now’s the time to put special effort into the circulation of the collection lists.
